The FAO - an autonomous specialized agency of the UN in Rome - has the task of improving the production and distribution of agricultural products and food products worldwide. The agency unites 194 nations and the EU association of states. This cultural diversity is also reflected in the architecture and especially in the interior of the building. The impetus to implement the draft of the architects Vittorio Cafiero and Mario Ridolfi came from Benito Mussolini in the late 1930s. However, it took another 14 years for the building to be finished in 1952. Today, the building represents the cultural diversity of its members. Through the layering of historical time components and its representative function as a „House of the United Nations“, the building and its interior receive a heterogeneous face: The crossover of Nations. In collaboration with the artist Via Lewandowsky Volker Kreidler has approached this face.
